Travel Through Time
A visit to Seville is a fascinating trip back through the ages. Seville has played a major role throughout many eras and cultures, from the pre-Roman Tartessian civilization to the Roman Empire, from the Germanic Vandals and Visigoths to the Moors, ancient Jews and Christians.
Seville’s golden age began with the explorers, including Christopher Columbus. King Ferdinand and Queen Isabella funded many voyages of discovery, which left from the port of Seville. In fact, the city became the chief port of trade with the Americas. The archives of all of those magnificent voyages are still housed in Seville today, along with many original treasures from the New World.
Today, Seville is a major center of industry, culture and tourism, and was the site of the 1992 World Exposition, as well as the 1997 Ryder Cup.
