Overview
Double Major in Language, Culture or Art
For a truly unique academic and cultural immersion experience, ACA’s Florence program combines college-level language study with exciting opportunities to examine subjects from classical Italian art to the dynamics of contemporary international business. And when it comes to experiencing and examining Renaissance culture, you’re where it all began. The city of Florence literally becomes your classroom.
ACA lets you take either a 3-credit college-level language class, or a 3-credit college-level culture, business or art course during your stay in Florence. You can also pair your 3-credit language, culture, business or art course with the Princeton Review SAT prep course or our culinary course at the world-famous Apicius Institute.
Courses are held at Florence’s Istituto Europeo, a renowned school located directly across from the awe-inspiring Arno River. Courses are offered only to ACA students, meet five days a week and are graded on a conventional grading system.
Students can earn up to 6 hours of applicable college credit upon successful completion of their coursework. In addition, high schools often grant credit for ACA courses as well. We’ll be happy to work with your school ahead of time to determine whether your ACA coursework qualifies for such credit.
College credits are conferred through Jacksonville University (for an additional fee) and are transferable to most universities, according to their individual standards. Official university transcripts, including course credit and grades, are available to each ACA student. As an added benefit, ACA’s professors are always happy to write recommendation letters for college.
Istituto Europeo – An Unbeatable Tuscan Setting for Studying Italian Language, Culture and Art
The Istituto Europeo is known throughout Europe for its dedication to working with international students. Adjacent to the renowned Piazza Republica, it features a classic setting, yet offers a contemporary learning approach. ACA students will benefit from language theories that encourage development of speaking and reading, as well as listening and writing. Students will also appreciate the school’s small class sizes, which encourage participation in the learning process. Artistic offerings include studio art, fashion design, drawing & painting, photography and more. And students interested in the arts will be pleased to know that the Department of Fine Arts is directed by the renowned Maestro Marcello Tommasi, one of Europe’s most sought-after arts instructors and winner of several awards for his contributions to the worlds of art and sculpture.
